Huelva and the beginnings of the Phoenician Colonization of the Iberian Peninsula

The foundation of a Phoenician colony on lands of the modern city of Huelva, in the second quarter of the 9th century BC, is defended in this paper. It is also argued that the settlers of Eastern Mediterranean origin can be identified by their dwellings, places of worship, and necropoleis, among other samples of their material culture, and that the presence of settlers belonging to the local substratum is not adequately proven.
